The Big Unwind 2020

The Big Unwind 2020 Sunday, March 29th Edinburgh Park Fitzroy Nth.

Each year we hold The Big Unwind, our annual event to raise awareness and much needed funds for The Christina Ghobadi Foundation. The Foundation gives wellness grants to young people living with cancer. Whether they are still undergoing or have finished their treatment, the road to recovery is exhausting and can take a huge toll on the young person’s mental and physical health and well-being. A wellness grant can support young people with yoga classes, a retreat to a peaceful destination or a gym membership. It can make all the difference to a young person’s recovery.

So please support our work by joining us for The Big Unwind at the Edinburgh Gardens in Fitzroy North on March 29th, 2020 from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Come for the whole day or drop in for a single event. You can support a good cause just by relaxing and unwinding with your friends and family.

We have lots of activities for adults and children:

Meditation in the park 10:00am – 11:00am

Begin your Sunday by taking the time to relax, reflect, and find your centre in the beautiful Edinburgh Park. Regular meditation can have a positive impact on our physical and mental health, whether it’s reducing stress, improving sleep, increasing focus, or improving relationships.

Cath Evans from the Tibetan Buddhist Society will be guiding us through the meditation session. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a mindfulness newbie, we’d love to see you there. We’ll have chairs and mats available.

Venerable Cathy Evans is a Buddhist nun with extensive knowledge of Tibetan artistry and its meaning. She is a long-time student of the founder and spiritual guide of the Society, Venerable Geshe Acharya Thubten Loden. Cathy is currently studying for her “Master’s Course at the Nalanda Buddhist Philosophy Tibet House Delhi, India”.

Yoga class 11:00am – 11:45am

Salute the sun in the fresh air during this beginner’s yoga class. Yoga is great for improving flexibility, strength, breathing, and also for practicing mindfulness.

Jenny, our professional instructor, will be running the session. She has years of experience in facilitating beginners and advanced classes in a range of different yoga styles. Worried you’re not flexible enough? No worries, each position can be adjusted to the individual’s level of ‘bendiness’. Yoga mats will be provided but feel free to bring your own.

Easter egg hunt 11:00am – 2:30pm

With Easter just around the corner, the day would not be complete without an Easter Egg Hunt!

Parents can take a time out, or join one of the event’s other activities, while the kids first craft their own Easter baskets then go hunting for eggs in the park, all under the expert guidance of the Easter Bunny’s assistants, Sandra and Sally.

Smart phone photography session 2:00 – 3:00pm

All the gear and no idea? Learn how to take amazing shots with your smart phone in this session designed for those who want to get the most out of their phone camera. You’ll learn tips from a professional photographer to start using straight away to capture and reflect on the special moments in everyday life.

The talented Jasmine Hirst from Beanstalk photography will talk us through lighting, composition and the best photo editing apps.
